They tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat hamentaschen. Meryl Yourish:
Purim is the holiday where the Jews kicked the crap out of the Persians. And that was using only swords. A lesson for Iran to think about today.
The story. And more on Purim and its customs here.

I didn't drink much last night because I chanted a chapter of the megillah last night, and again this morning at 7:30 AM. So I didn't want to have a hangover. Being a designated leyner has some trade-offs.

UPDATE: A Purim / Good Friday reflection on Terri Schiavo's struggle. Sounds like a cheesy attempt at a strained analogy, but she makes it work.

Kind of a strained connection, but I'm going to put this link here and not in one of the many burgeoning Schiavo entries. "Purim" means "casting lots" (maybe emphasizing how the wheel of fortune reversed itself in that story) (but by God's hidden hand), and Karol was playing a game of chance online tonight. Read the rest.

RELATED: Sort of.

UPDATE: The Jewish Week Purim Schpiel . . . replete with local in-jokes:
. . . in the spirit of Purim, here’s an introduction we’d like to see if the City Councilwoman from Crown Heights met the chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations:

“Tish James, James Tisch … James Tisch, Tish James.”
UPDATE: Unfortunately, bad taste is not limited to the scions of the British Royal Family.
