Shoah. Holocaust Remembrance Day was yesterday, and I blew it off as usual. I figure since both of my parents were refugees, I've got the remembrance covered. (I know that's glib - the all-night ritual of reading the names is very powerful and worth participating in.) Anyway, in lieu of showing up for the reading myself, I bring you this (via Meryl) and this.

Also, this is a good time to remember the Jewish Partisans. Come to think of it, I did engage in a bit of Holocaust remembrance this month by rereading Marge Piercy's excellent historical novel of WWII, Gone to Soldiers, which I highly recommend for its vivid and carefully researched portrayal of Jewish responses to WWII. I don't know of any other novelization of the Partisan experience.

UPDATE: Lots of links from Lynn.

UPDATE: Jim Davila on the campaign to replace "Holocaust" with "Shoah." One of these picky politically correct self-definition nomenclature things, but it makes a good point.
