Asked for comment about the production at the city-supported theater, Jonathan Greenspun, the commissioner of the mayor?s Community Assistance Unit, said only: "In April of last year, Lemrick Nelson admitted in a court of law that he did in fact stab Yankel Rosenbaum. Yankel?s death was not an accident, and anyone who thinks otherwise isn't living in reality." According to the play's creators, however, reality is an unreliable measure of veracity. A prologue introduces "Crown Heights" as "a piece of New York fiction" that is "probably closer to the truth than what is sometimes labeled New York reality."Yeah, if reality doesn't suit your polemical purposes, the hell with reality.
Eeuuw. This makes my flesh crawl. Give this horror some publicity please. Thank you.
