Arson of historic Toronto synagogue: One of Toronto's oldest synagogues was broken into and set ablaze, angering the Jewish community which regarded the building as a landmark in its history. "It appears that there was a forced entry and a case of arson," said Sergeant Ralph Brookes of the fire at Anshei Minsk synagogue, the only downtown synagogue that is fully orthodox and provides daily prayer services. The synagogue is in the Kensington Market district, which was the hub of Toronto Jewish life during the community's early stages in the early 20th century. (CP)
